The Kelly Moore Bag
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
I was so excited to discover the Kelly Moore bag last week…. I’m a Shootsac user - and it’s a pretty great bag. It’s simple, and it makes swapping lenses really easy. The only issue I have though, is I never know where to put my keys, wallet, chapstick, etc., especially when I’m doing an engagement shoot downtown somewhere. My 70-200 lens also slipped out and hit the cement because it wasn’t secure enough in the Shootsac (it’s a tight squeeze in that bag).
Plus, this bag is pretty. I’m excited to give the Kelly Moore bag a try - I’ll let you know what I think!
My thoughts on senior pics….

For those of you who know me, I’m a ‘This American Life’ nut. And I’m an Ira Glass fan in a big time embarrassing way. I’ve watched this clip at least ten times, and I’ve actually teared up watching it. For most people it probably wouldn’t resonate like it does with me, but as a photographer with a mission to describe moments, personalities, and relationships….. it really hits me. I think because the more I do senior pictures, I love them. A bit surprising actually, as someone who is passionate about photojournalism. But as I took more pictures, I realized I didn’t have to produce air-brushed personality free portraits of seniors. Plus, my favorite part of each session is actually walking from setting to setting and the conversations that happen in-between.
I actually struggle with my senior-pic blog posts - because my favorite pictures are always those taken ‘in-between’ the poses (like when Kelsey was sitting next to a bee, or when Markie and Katelyn high-fived when switching up scenes, or when Meg and I laughed while fighting the wind with hair situation…) but I also understand the main purpose of a senior pic is to take a great beautiful portrait for the yearbook and for graduation announcements, etc. I just don’t want to scare my seniors with blog posts of only photojournalistic pictures!
Anyway - this clip is awesome because it shows the stark contrast between the typical school portrait and with how much life and personality students have. Enjoy! (PS - I don’t think there’s anything too offensive in this clip…. but just so you know the interviews of each kid don’t necessarily reflect me!)
